Good questions.
Is the snow wet? Will it make a mess?
No. It's Evaporative Snow®: dry flakes that disappear in under two minutes on average, so there's nothing to sweep up. On smooth floors like linoleum or tile, run him on a rug or mat, because a lot of snow in one spot can make the floor slick for a moment.
How long does one tank last?
About 45 minutes. The tank holds ½ gallon: one 2 oz bottle of snow fluid plus water.
How much does it cost to run?
About $8 of fluid per tank. A 6-pack of 2 oz bottles is $47 and each bottle makes one full tank, roughly 45 minutes of snow. A 6-pack comes in the box.
Can he go outside?
Yes, on a porch, patio or covered entry. Keep him out of rain, use a GFCI outlet, and don't run him below 25°F.
Is the snow fluid safe for kids and pets?
Global Special Effects says the fluid is non-toxic and safe for people, pets and plants. Its safety data sheet for the undiluted concentrate also lists skin and eye irritation, so grown-ups should handle the bottles. The snowman itself is a decoration, not a toy, so grown-ups should run him too. Read more about snow fluid safety.
How far does the snow go?
About 15 to 20+ feet from his mittens. A knob on the machine sets the flakes from fine to chunky.
Does it need assembly?
No. He ships fully assembled. Fill the tank, plug him into a standard 120 V outlet and flip the switch. The switch also works with a remote-control outlet plug.
Who makes the Amazing Snowman?
Global Special Effects in Lexington, Alabama, the company behind Evaporative Snow®. Orders are checked out and shipped by Global Special Effects.
Will the snow stain anything?
Not when it's run properly, says Global Special Effects: the flakes leave no moisture. Very large flakes can hold some, and GSE warns that can lift the finish on silk or lacquer, like a piano. Turn the knob to a finer flake near anything delicate.
Does the snow smell? Can he be near food?
GSE says the snow has no odor and that its Evaporative Snow® fluid is kosher. Caterers and wedding planners use it near food displays and for cake cuttings.
Can I use tap water?
Yes. One 2 oz bottle plus tap water fills the tank. GSE notes that hard, mineral-heavy water can make the flakes less bright, so cleaner water gives prettier snow.
Can he snow when it's below freezing?
GSE's FAQ says its snow machines can run in freezing weather as long as the fluid stays warmer than 32°F. Any machine left outside needs to be covered.
How long does the snow fluid keep?
GSE guarantees a 3-year shelf life, and it often lasts longer stored somewhere climate-controlled and out of direct sunlight.
